I used this book to make the best Thanksgiving dinner since my mom died over 25 years ago. The dressing brought back memories of my mom and was absolutely delicious. While my Mac and Cheese is pretty good, the recipe in this book took it to another level. As an appetizer, I made the fried wings and sauce, again very easy to follow recipes that taste wonderful. My next attempt will be the potato salad and the greens for Christmas...I can't wait.

Love, love, LOVE this cook book! The yummy recipes remind me of the food my mother, grandmother and neighbor ladies made when I was growing up. The instructions are user-friendly and the vibrant photos just jump off the page. Miss Robbie's back-stories nestled among many of the recipes give you the feel of being taught a cooking lesson from a sassy auntie.My 87-year-old mom (a stroke patient) is a big fan of the TV show, "Welcome to Sweetie Pies" I made the mistake of showing the book to Mom when I served her breakfast. She loves it so much she couldn't put it down to eat!

I was so excited and so happy for her these recipes remind me of my grandmother and my mother there's only a few difference in some her recipes and some new ones I never heard of my grandson got excited about the Kool Aid pie so we made that and we enjoyed it it was delicious congratulations miss Robbie may God bless you.

Finally it is here. Thanks Miss Robbie. I have been waiting for this cookbook. The recipes remind me of my dear Mom's recipes. Some are exactly the same. Easy to follow directions with basic ingredients. Reminds me of home and all the great memories. Soul food at its best. Can't wait to start cooking!

So far I tried the greens, potato salad, hot honey chicken wings, & succotash. Everything is very good and pretty simple to make. I am not a very good cook and I found that a couple of the recipes do not complete the instructions. For example, the chicken wings calls for lemon juice and soy sauce in the instructions, but do not list those two ingredients in the Ingredients list, therefore I had to guess at how much to use and I probably got it wrong. Another example: the succotash recipe indicates to cook the bacon and remove from the pan, but then the instructions stop. However, by looking at the picture I figured out what to do with the bacon. I wish all the recipes could have had a pic, but I know that was not possible. The pics that are in the book are outstanding. I had already made the mac & cheese several times by getting the recipe online. Making Sweetie Pie’s mac & cheese is the only way I can make a decent mac & cheese. I can’t wait to try more of the recipes.

I love this book! I really love the idea of making your own spices to add to your dishes and the alternative broths.

I usually purchase a cookbook because I am interested in most of the recipes. But with this cookbook, every single recipe will be on my dinner table! I am a wife and mother of three boys. I cannot wait to prepare the dishes for them.

This book has every recipe I could've ever imagined. I even love the sample menus and how she teaches you how to make sauces, seasoning mixes, etc from scratch. No other cookbook I've come across included nearly half of what's in this book. I now have my cooking Bible! Thank You Ms Robbie and especially Tim for pushing her to share her receipes with us.

Very nicely put together book. I've been doing smoothies etc. since the 1970's and what makes much of this nice and fresh for me are ingredients, fresh ideas/recipes (and of course better blenders etc). Nice photos. Too many times honey is in "vegan" recipe books and not declared as being not vegan. In this book it is an option for those not vegan. A lovely book for those new to raw goodies, cookies, cakes, smoothies etc. and I greatly recommend.

LOVE!!! Beautiful photos and delicious recipes, this book is the perfect answer for my new refined sugarfree, dairy free, and gluten free diet.

Quality book, well written with beautiful photography. The recipes are vegan, use wholesome ingredients and look wonderful. Technically, not completely raw as some of the ingredients (like oats, coconut cream, etc...) should not be considered raw. Still, this is a 5 star book!

Very nice book.

I gave this to a friend for his birthday because he absolutely loves sports. He said that he loves it and is mucho grateful.

If hockey and baseball can have Total Hockey and Total Baseball what is up with basketball? Not a bad book by any means but needs a bit more punch to it. How about more insightful essays like those "Total" books go for?

I bought this book after trying to learn Perl through another book (Perl for Bioinformatics). This book is definitely a better introduction to Perl than any other book I've seen. It is clear and concise enough and although it might be hard to finish it in 21 days, you can start coding your own scripts much before the end of the book. I am still on chapter 11 and I can program most of what I need with it (i.e parsers and simple bioinformatics applications). I recognize that there are a few typos on the book but if even Knuth's Art of Computer Programming have them why shouldn't Lemay's Teach Yourself Perl in 21 Days do the same?Given what I said above, I must warn begginer programmers (like me) that Perl is not the best language for you to learn as your first one. It is a dirty scripting language which does the job and is most suitable for parsing files and formatting data but it has a lot of things which make it quite confusing initially (its context dependency for instance). If you want to learn something that will give a solid programming base you should start with something else (i.e. Java, Pascal, Ruby etc) which will probably be a little bit harder but will payoff later.

It's an ok book. I was hoping for it to be twice like an original Perl book I have that has come apart.

The bad:1. It has many typos and mistakes. Mistakes in a "teach yourself" book are particularly unacceptable.2. The explanations are very tedious to read and not very good. If you have never programmed then these tedious explanations may be of some help to you, although better quality explanations of the language are available elsewhere. But if you're an experienced programmer looking to learn Perl then reading an explanation of how a while loop works over and over again will, to say the least, not be your cup of Java. This is especially strange since, as it said in the book, this book is written for readers with at least some programming experience. Furthermore, many of the explanations are so vague that they're practically useless. For instance, instead of giving an explanation about the local scope of a foreach loop variable, the author says "if it [the iterating variable in the foreach loop] doesn't exist prior to the loop, it'll stop existing after the loop. If it does exist prior to the loop, the foreach will just use it as a temporary variable, and then restore its original value when you're done looping. You can think of the foreach variable as a sort of scratch variable used solely to store elements, which is then thrown away when the loop's done." And I consider this to be a representative example of most of the explanations in this book.3. This book is a bad reference. Many people buy programming books so that they can quickly read a few pages and learn some detail about some language feature. For this, the book is useless. There are many features that do NOT have a full explanation, only a partial one, and even these are often times strewn around the book so that you'll have to search for them. And personally, I can not use this book as a reference since I have doubts about the correctness of many of its explanations.4. The author will MANY times give a vague description of a feature and then tell you to look at the Perl documentation for more details. This makes the book useless for a beginner (since they're just learning the language) and useless for someone who already knows the language and is using it as a reference (since then they may as well have just gone to the Perl documentation from the outset).5. The example programs are not that well written. The quality of the example programs reminds me of something that I would have written when I had just a few years of programming experience.6. The book tells you many times about what you're going to learn about later in the book, which gets annoying.7. The author includes useless programming examples for some reason. Ex: "For example, here's a somewhat pointless for loop that creates an array, and then destroys it, backwards, printing the number of remaining (sic) and the array itself as it goes: [shows the code] I can't image what sort of Perl program would need this kind of loop, and because it iterates over a list it would probably make more sense as a foreach."8. Mistakes such as not knowing when to use "that" or "which" are unacceptable for any author.The good:1. If you're a beginner and if you can stand reading through all of it then you will learn something about the Perl language and you will learn how to create a quick script (although as a word of caution, if you emulate this book's examples then your scripts likely won't be very good).This programming book is among the worst that I have seen.Overall, I wish that I had bought another book.

I have always had this book. This is my go to book for any perl references. One of the best books to start learning perl.

Good description of Perl.

This isn't bad. I think it moves kinda fast, but that may just be me. This is seriously the only presentation of the subject matter that I'd consider reading to completion. This is a good introduction to Perl and a good reference for the future.

I love the structure of this book. This is a great Perl book than anything other book that I've been exposed to.

Out of the multiple times that I have tried to get into programming, this has been the best so far. While he does say at the start that the first half is for the newest of programmers, it is still a good refresher. I'm 2/3rds through, and while the formatting on the digital version has been horrible, the information has not been, so the formatting is really my only qualm about this.Pros:-Good walkthrough-The pace is fantastic-Solid for complete beginner to somewhat familiar with programming syntax.Cons:-Digital formatting-Could use more friendlier explanations when explaining things, though it could be from the formatting.

This book is a complete walkthrough for creating a text adventure game using python as a coding language. I loved how the chapters explained the concepts of python programming as they build on each other while also introducing a text adventure from the very beginning. Great way to learn programming.

If your new to Python, and want to learn it by coding a simple game, then this book is perfect for you.

As an introductory book to Python, this is ok. I'd like to have seen something about passing by reference vs value, and a warning about circular dependencies in the code organization chapter, but I guess this stuff can be learned later.As a book on building text adventures though this is awful. There is no separation between code and data, so you would have to rewrite parts of the engine for each game. Each room is it's own subclass, so if you wanted many rooms with unique descriptions you'd have dozens of subclasses. Room contents are tied to the room class. The world and room exits are defined by and restricted to a 2D grid, so no support for portals or one way doors, and adding up and down directions would be a pain. Worst though is that there is no discussion about building even a simple 2 word parser. All actions are simple one letter commands.Still, if you're looking for a first book of programming to give to a kid, you could do worse. The subject matter is less dry than most introductory programming books, and each chapter has some exercises at the end to reinforce the lessons, which is always a good thing.Overall, not bad as a first programming book for a beginner, but disappointing from a text adventure building perspective.

With a suitable sauce I COULD EAT THIS BOOK

I've spent a good bit of time in Thailand and love the food having eaten in Royal Thai restaurants, street side cafes, at street vendors and even home cooking. I've cooked it several times a week on average for the last 10 years. Many of the Thai cookbooks offered in the U.S. limit their recipes to Royal Thai cuisine, the stuff you'll get in expensive restaurants over there. They also leave out critical ingredients that may only be available if you spend time searching. For me, it's better to know how it's really done then modify the recipe as I must given the availability of quality ingredients.The authors don't waste a lot of paper talking about utensils, ingredients, philosophy and such, just a few pages. Then they dive right in to good Thai cooking such as phat seew, phad lardna, tod mun plaa, curries and such. They do leave out some of the more exotic stuff like ant larvae, galanga stems or eel that probably won't appeal to westerners. Everything I have tried has been great as it is written, but I tend to deviate from recipes when I cook. If you do the "Julie and Julia" thing, working your way through the entire cookbook, you'll be able to ad-lib your way into an endless variety of great Thai cooking. It's a short cookbook (137 pages, probably 110 recipes) so it won't take too long. I've got a stack of Thai cookbooks I've used over the years, but this is one of my two go-to volumes.(Update: per request, my other go-to is called The Love of Thai Cooking, Vista Productions Ltd, no author listed, first ed. 1978, no ISBN. Likely out of print)
