Very challenging series to review. Book one, especially, needed an editor. Either I got used to the issues by book 3 or the writing style improved significantly.It is difficult at times to visualize this unique world because of poor prose, which is frustrating because this is so unique that you really want to be able to visualize the story as it plays out. If ever a book needed illustration, this is it. In the end I have settled on Assayers looking like Ents with bejeweled heads and Veroth looking like clouds with two silver beads floating in them... but I still can't visualize Fragments.Ingram and Corina are probably the main reason I read on when inarticulate world building frustrated me. Their romance is muted, thankfully, so it doesn't detract from the story. Their characters are wholly unique, especially Ingram. I have never met a less heroic hero! Yet, instead of hating him, I just scoffed at him - he is useless and mostly he knows it. No inexplicable superhuman powers or abilities ever happen his way. Yet he is not completely a bumbling idiot getting in the way.Corina isn't especially special but somehow that works too. My favourite thing about her is that she is an independent woman and she doesn't feel the need to say it - just be it. She doesn't need a man to be powerful, she isn't obsessed with her appearance or what the world thinks of her. She isn't rude and arrogant disguised as powerful. She's just a hardworking girl doing the best that she can because she has to. No excessive angst and drama, nothing.All in all, so many good things about this series that it probably deserves at least rounding up to a 4. Except that it can be too difficult to read and understand and therefore fully visualize and immerse yourself in the adventure.

Delighted I happened upon the first book and couldn't stop reading until all three had been enjoyed to the last word.

I found this trilogy through Amazon for 99 cents. After having read it, I would buy the hardcover books for 99 dollars (especially if signed). Clever, sardonic, and plenty of twists arhat did not happen in the places I predicted they would. Corina and Ingram are refreshing and I am so glad their relationship was not the focus for the books, but instead, a stabilizing foundation for the reader to gather themselves for the next adventure. I absolutely recommend this series to anyone that wants a breather from the heaviness of other authors. Read these books to get that feeling of completion that one cannot get from other “popular“ series these days.

Corina was digging for hues when Imperial soldiers appeared, bored a hole into the ground and sent the emperor's Hound in to search for a Rune. Corina found it later that night and it started her life of freedom, danger, war and love.the characters have lots of personality. lots of jumping around, so occasionally it gets overwhelming to follow them from place to place but worth it.

Enjoyed the books as they kept my interest. Not all books do

I liked this story- it was interesting right to the end. It was a fast read, which I appreciate. The setting is unique, along with the characters and magics. I am giving this trilogy a five-star review in spite of the fact that the two main characters were consistently whiners and complainers with victim mentalities throughout the three books. The story and setting were good enough to make up for their immature attitudes.

Did not keep me going. I had to force myself to finish.

I have not finished the series, I have not finished the first book. I have been reading it for a few months.It started out very well and then slowed down to a crawl. I am continuing to read it, a chapter here and a chapter there but it is currently not a book not a book you can not put down.

The stickers are great quality pictures of wild animals. A nice huge selection. However, I would not consider these as reusable stickers. To me these are just regular stickers. They are very thin and tears easily if you’re not careful. My toddler destroyed a handful already. I prefer the Melissa & Doug reusable stickers as far as being a true and durable reusable stickers.

We first bought their farm animals sticker book and knew we'd be buying many more as soon as our toddler got her hands on it.This keeps her entertained for long stretches of time, which is vital since we fly quite a bit. Highly recommended as long as your toddler doesn't eat them :)

Beautiful stickers but NOT reusable! The paper is so thin that they tore even with me getting them off for the kids. You can't reposition them or they curl up and won't stick. Definitely a one time use product--if it doesn't tear up when you try to even get the sticker off the page.

These stickers are wonderful. My curious toddler has a tendency to place stickers everywhere and these stickers come off so easily it's definitely worthy getting plus the quality is really good!

I bought these stickers as an incentive for my students, they love them.

Purchased for elementary students and they love the different selection of stickers.

You get so many stickers with this book and they're nice stickers! I gave it 4 stars because they're not really great as reusable stickers and I wish the book had more picture space to place the animals

Just like the Visual Literacy book, this text also provides enough justification to use graphic novels in the classroom. Each chapter provides lessons or suggested activities that can be done in the classroom with prominent graphic novels. Examples of these are Beowulf, Persepolis, Fagin the Jew, Spiderman, among others. It is very important for the editor as well for the contributors to this text to connect the graphic novel with curriculum endorsed texts. for example, Fagin the Jew is connected to Oliver Twist, and X-Men adventure with Dante's Inferno, or The Amazing True Story of a Teenage Single Mom with Scarlett Letter. In this manner, the authors constantly persuade us that many of these graphic novels are as valid in the classroom as any of the canonical texts. I bought this book because the title caught my attention. I was intrigued with the idea of using graphic novels to build literacy. Reading this book was like awakening from a deep sleep, completely refreshed and energized to face the day ahead. The articles were well presented, and offered encouragement to any teacher who is willing to take on the task of using graphic novels as a teaching aide. The book is not a "how to" book, as one reviewer indicated. What it does is to share experiences of teachers who implemented aspects of teaching graphic novels in their classrooms, what they did and how it turned out. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the articles and didn't scan through for pertinent facts as I normally would have. "Building Literacy Connections with Graphic Novels Page by Page, Panel by Panel" is a must read for all high school language arts teachers.

I'm teaching Persepolis to an honors class, and I was hoping to find some concrete examples of how to teach a graphic novel. This book has some interesting articles about using graphic novels and the efficacy of incorporating them into the program, but it is not a "how to" in any sense. These articles would be great for someone researching graphic novels in the classroom - it would be better if it included some generalized elements of graphic novels and even some lessons that could be used.

In addition to the introduction, Carter also wrote two essays in the book. One lays out a possible lesson plan for teaching "The Scarlett Letter" using a graphic novel for comparison. In the other essay, Carter shows teachers how to use the "Spider-Man" comic book series to improve students' writing skills and help them find their own voice in their writings. Among other topics covered in the book, the various authors demonstrate a creative pairing between Dante's "Inferno" and "The X-Men" comic book series, the uses of the graphic novel in teaching a complex text such as "Beowulf," and using graphic novels to tackle the inherent antisemitism in the works of Charles Dickens.While this book does not necessarily claim to offer the best techniques for teaching English (Carter acknowledges that adolescent boys might find some comic books more interesting than adolescent girls, for example), it makes great strides toward establishing the legitimacy of comic books and graphic novels in teaching. After reading "Building Literacy Connections with Graphic Novels," teachers should come away with some different and new methods to employ in their classroom, backed up by research and results. For those teachers having trouble getting through to their students, I recommend reading this book to see if graphic novels may be a solution.
