I thought this would be a book about general principles of archery, form, etc. I wanted an instructional quick start guide that started out with some basics.While it does contain some of that, it also contains information early on that is not very useful to the beginner, such as an explanation of how one can customize their arrows, glue feathers on, whether the feathers came from the left or right wing of the bird, which colors are good for hunting animals, etc. That is something I really don't care about as a beginner wanting to do a little target practice.My general sense is that the author simply started out telling us all he knows about archery, without regard for whether a beginner needed or wished to know that information.I wouldn't call it a quick start guide by any means. It's not terrible, it's just not what I was looking for.I'll continue to look elsewhere.

I love this book. I am new to traditional archery. Like most folk I had a few sessions at summer camp as a boy and moved on to other sports. My knowledge of archery was effectively zero. I bought this book as a way to understand the basics and a little of the history of archery without making a big initial investment. The book was exactly what I wanted / needed. If you are a novice archer, or an experienced compound bow archer and interested in what trad archery is all about - you will benefit from this well written book. The prose and the right level of technical details are easy to understand... and learn.. I looked at selections in the local library branch and, frankly, they were poor comparisons for this one.

Very good book. I have been shooting with recurves and compounds (for pretty much all my life) and just bought a longbow. This book is full of good tips and cover a lot. It does not fall like many books on archery that explain all the kinds of bows on the markets, or all the kinds of arrows and blades, and strings.... It goes through many many (I want to say all) sides of shooting (mindset, stands, experience, exercises, ...) with a traditional bow. It's exactly what I was looking for. A simple (but thorough) approach to traditional archery, Thanks!

I have shot a compound for a good many years but finally at age 60 decided I wanted to do something different and learn to shoot a traditional bow. Knowing that instinctive shooting would be like learning another language I wanted to read something about the subject before I ever took my first shot. Although I see this has received some negative feed back, I for one thought this was a great primer. Yes, I may never make and fletch my own arrows but I found the information very interesting. I'm a member of a Sportsman's Club and some of our member archers actually do their own.What I really found instructive were the chapters on bow tuning, stance work and the beginning and advanced shooting drills. Having run commercial martial arts schools for many years and having taught exercise physiology at the graduate school level I can appreciate the author's simple, graduated drills for developing good neuromuscular memory and eye/brain/hand coordination and I will start doing these to the letter. I am very happy to have read this cover to cover before drawing back my re-curve.

Over the years I have amassed a healthy archery library. I have books that are much larger, MUCH more expensive, some clinical, some anecdotal, more than a few that were redundant and a couple that were woo-woo crazy. This single, unassuming little paperbook has proven more valuable than ANY of them and I have purchased at least fifteen copies as gift for friends who wanted to practice archery. I will be buying more for the same reason. His training program is HIGHLY effective for the instinctive archer and while there are other methods, if you use this as your foundation you will have no trouble transitioning to other styles and methods of archery.For a basic, well-rounded education in traditional archery as well as a marvelous training regimen, you simply cannot beat this book.

This is a well-written book that is easy to read and has a great step-by-step program for learning how to shoot a recurve or longbow without using mechanical sights. I found the information helpful even though I'm not a beginner. Well worth the price.

If you have a dislike for the compound bow and would like a book covering all aspects of the traditional long bow this book was written for you! The author introduces you to the right equipment and how to make adjustments. This is followed by correct shooting form and accuracy exercises. The text is supported by high quality black and white pictures. The last topic, instinctive bow hunting, clearly shows the author in numerous body positions to use in hunting. One favorite picture shows a 3D target deer caught in some tangled brush. The hunting exercise leads one to develop instinctive shooting technique. The author discusses numerous opinions and offers his own after evaluating that of others. At the end there is an appendix on archery suppliers, bow makers, and other resources. I disliked the section of the book (a concentration exercise) dealing with shooting an arrow with one eyes closed. Overall the book exceeded my expectations; for that reason I am giving it a perfect score of five stars!

This book is recommended because it fits in your back pocket, and it comes with a removable map of Hong Kong Island with Macau. It has a small color subway guide as well. it has sturdy plastic lamination on the cover and jackets.It is perfect for 2-3 days in Hong Kong, and has general recommendations about popular places to visit and eat and stay. It is a fair product to get you around the basic places with good transport information. It is not meant as a comprehensive guide. That is the larger book by Rough Guide.

Rough Guides are never a disappointment, but they also aren't mind blowing in details or information you can't find on TripAdvisor or other sites. Before discovering Moncole Travel Guide Series, I would without hesitation give Rough Guide 5/5 stars.....but then I found Moncole's Hong Kong and it truly deserves the 5 star rating. I like Rough Guide as a supplement to any travel guide I take with us for several reasons. Compact size to throw into a day bag or purse, easy to navigate chapters as they are laid out by neighborhoods, "Best of," and in particular with Rough Guide Hong Kong the key phrases or signs in several languages. This guide also has a very beneficial map that is removable and ideal if you just need a map to navigate the streets of Hong Kong. Mass transit clearly marked, and several new features to this edition make it useful for a first time visitor (such as me) to Hong Kong.

We took this book and the Frommers Day by Day guide to Hong Kong and Macau and basically ended up throwing away the Frommers book. This one was so much better! Great neighborhood maps, suggestions of things to do, explanations of what you are seeing. You can use this to plan your whole trip and get you around the whole time. This, plus a detailed transit map from the hotel was all we needed.

I am a confirmed Kindle user and prefer e-books to printed books whenever they are available (especially for traveling). But guidebooks are one huge exception. Maps are hard to find in a flash and almost always unreadable. Much better to have well-thumbed pages to guide you than to fumble with an e-reader. This is entirely about the medium, not the message. The guidebook itself is fine.

Great little guide to Hong Kong. The size makes it easy to keep in your purse. It also had great information about a number of attractions - although a lot of hotels were missing.

I have been to Hong Kong 3 prior trips, though the last one was 10 yrs ago. I got this book to refresh my memory. That it did, but it also provided tips and places I had not see. Well worth the money.

I used this and the Top 10 guide on our recent trip. This book had the better detailed maps and descriptions although some of the restaurants were out of date.

This guide is definitely a pocket reference, not a definitive guide. It lists many interesting attractions and gives details about them as well. There are a few restaurant and hotel recommendations, but not a lot. This guide would be good as a quick reference, but if you are planning your trip in advance, you may want to look for a more comprehensive guide.

I bought this book about a week ago, and since then I've given myself a bit of a WordPress intensive. I decided to buy it because I'd tried to start with WordPress by using various online resources, and I quickly discovered that it was way beyond me. Just to give you some idea, here are some of my early missteps:- I signed up for a wordpress.com account, then tried to install a theme (a friend had suggested one). I soon discovered that I couldn't, which left me completely confused. A bit of online research revealed that there's wordpress.com and wordpress.org and the two are quite different. A day wasted, and a frustrating waste of time.- I then went to wordpress.org and discovered an 'easy 5 minute install'. Great, I thought, I'm in the right place. So I started to do it and soon discovered I was out of my depth. Download the zip file, open it, go in and change a line of code, upload various files to your web server using ftp... again, completely bamboozling for someone who was hoping for a 'drag and drop' website creator. I happened then to be on an online forum and saw mention of 'softaculous'. I then went into my web host's cPanel (somewhat nervously) and discovered that you can actually install WordPress with ONE CLICK. Another day wasted.I share this because it will hopefully give you some sense of my level of experience. Not exactly an experienced developer, but also reasonably comfortable with searching online to find answers.I also share it because once I decided to actually buy this book, I discovered that the first chapter was about the distinction between wordpress.com and .org, and the second chapter was about how the 'easy 5 minute install' is actually quite difficult, and it's much easier to install it through cPanel using a one-click installer like Softaculous.In other words, what had taken me two frustrating days to discover, I could have learned in 10 minutes of reading.Since then I've burned through the book and I am now feeling very confident with the basics of WordPress. I saw some comments on the previous edition saying it focused too much on wordpress.com, but I would have to disagree. If anything, I was oblivious to wordpress.com throughout, and in general he simply says "this is how it works on wordpress.com, but on self-hosted wordpress.org sites, here's how it works". Regardless of the actual specific weighting either way, I found it provided me with all the information I needed to know.One comment I would have is that there was a plug-in mentioned that I tried to use, only to discover that it was no longer working for the latest version of WordPress (3.9.1 at time of writing). This was One Click Child Themes - so it would probably be worth having a site with the most up-to-date plug-ins. I tried using it and it didn't work, and it took a while to discover that it was only compatible up to WordPress 3.2.1.Another thing I couldn't see mentioned were tools like the Firebug extension for Firefox, or Chrome's Developer Tools, which reveal the CSS for web pages. Very useful.But overall this book was exactly what I was looking for, and my only regret was that I didn't buy it earlier. For $9.99 I've gone from a frustrated WordPress noob to a pretty confident WordPress user in under a week - although a fairly focused week - doing pretty much everything I need to do.If you're looking into WordPress, I'd recommend it. One thing I would say is that WordPress is NOT a basic drag-and-drop system like a Squarespace or Virb. (I've built sites with Squarespace and it's much easier for the everyday person). It helps a lot if you have some familiarity with html or css in particular, which is something I hadn't expected. It also comes with its own security issues, and you do need some familiarity with ftp and your web host. So while it's achievable, I wouldn't call it lay-down easy. I ended up buying Web Hosting for Dummies just to get my head around some of that stuff, and in combination the two books have been exactly what I needed.

Its a really great book, however if you have some experience building web sites (like i do) you might want to skip it. Author assumes you don't even understand html or css. I read the whole book anyway and saved myself some time of clicking around wordpress dashboard, but i could have done that instead. I really liked the way author explains things, especially when he is talking a little bit about php at the end, i think it should be easy to understand for beginners. I read lots of web design and programming books and i can tell that M. MacDonald has a really good style of writing, he doesn't skip anything and makes everything clear and easy. So if you don't feel like exploring wordpress on your own and want to sit back and relax while learning i think you should get this book. Well not really, you still need to open your wordpress dashboard and explore as you read. Author also mentions a lot of useful links and websites that might be helpful in the future, i didn't know some of them but I'm glad i do now.

My tendency to compare every Missing Manual and tech writer to David Pogue is probably the reason I can't give this a 5 star review, although a lot of thought, knowledge, skill and expertise went into this book. I bought Mac For Dummies in the mid-ninties back when I bough my first Power PC, and I'm sorry, MacDonald doesn't have that quick wit hat I've always enjoyed form Pogue. However, what"WordPress: The Missing Manual" lacks in entertainment value, it more than compensates fro in usefulness. And let me say this - if you are about to enter the world of WordPress, this is probably the best of the instructional references on the subject. I have spent hours in a Barnes and Noble brick & mortar store poring through other WordPress books and this is the most complete and up to date book I could find. There are other more advanced WordPress books - some that delve more deeply into niches (such as blogger or website specific or business and marketing specific). But this covers a WHOLE LOT of ground and you can be a total newbie and/or a reasonably advanced user and still find this a useful reference to keep handy in your library or by the computer workstation.As with all the other "Missing Manual" series books, there is a "Missing CD" website where you can find links to toehr resources and files referred to in the book as well as updates to the content.

Of all the books on web design Ive ever used "Learn Visually" "Teach Yourself" the ..."Bible" and other this is by far the least impressive. Sure, you can dig thorough it and stumble your way through various tasks but it is not as user friendly as some of the others. If you already have a good understanding of Word Press and you want to fine tune what you know this might be a good choice for you but if you are somewhat new to Word Press you might be better off with another more descriptive book. If you are new to web design don't even bother, you will be totally lost; find something basic and learn that first.

A friend of mine is starting a business and was delighted when I offered to build him a website. I knew nothing about it, but I'd written desktop and embedded software in a variety of languages for over 35 years. How complicated could it be? Much more than I expected. I tried my usual successful technique of diving in and figuring things out as I go, and soon found that I was going nowhere. This book is the guide that I needed. The only reason that I am not giving it five stars, is that the screen snapshots are difficult to read in my Kindle edition even after I zoom in on the figures. And I have the newest Kindle PaperWhite. (Note to publisher: Please darken/increase the contrast of the screenshots) Still, I'm very glad that I got this book.

I bought this book both because I am a fan of the Boomer&Carton program and because Craig Carton is a fellow Syracuse University alumni. The book was a very funny tale of his early life and early career and it was a quick and fun read. I laughed out loud plenty of times! It was much better than I expected (and I mean that in a nice way) but I bought a discounted copy (only $3.58 for a new book) and it was worth that money.

Great book and hilarious! If you like the Boomer and Carton show, you'll love this.

I enjoyed reading about his career path and actually laughed out loud once. Not enough insight into his present job at WFAN. It's a very quick read and if you have no idea who Craig Carton is, don't waste what free time you might have reading it.

but holy $h*t do I LOVE Carton!!! this book was so entertaining. I couldn't put it down. well written and insanely honest and hilarious.

Local guy wrote a fast read funny book about his broadcasting rise and fall. If you are from NY or NJ and you listen to his show: you will love it

Very little substance, very little about the inner workings of the radio business, especially his experiences at WFAN. His life before that, frankly, is just not that interesting.

It's a good book if you are a fan of carton and his show. Not too much sports talk. Which is not exactly a bad thing
