Judge Dress the cursed Earth is a reimplemented version of The Lost Expedition, owning both games I seem to play Judge Dress more. The artwork is amazing, it's the same style of the graphic novel. If you have played the Lost Expedition then you already know how to play this game, it follows the same structure. Now I have only played both games as a solo game, so I can only attest to the solo mode, during the dawn phase you draw 6 cards from the encounter deck, then draw two more from the encounter deck face up on the table, then put them in numerical order, then play two more cards from your hand, then draw one more from the deck, then play one last card from your hand, that's the encounters you are going to have for the dawn phase. In the pictures you will see some new icons, such as Radiation. Radiation works like this, Everytime you encounter radiation you place a radiation chit on a character card, if ever the number of radiation chits is more then the number of health,that character is dead. So you have to balance that out between all characters. Then each character has there own specialties, Dredd has survival, Judge Giant has diplomacy, and Judge Anderson has Psychic powers. The goal of the game is to beat the perps to a specific location card, and have at least one living judge. The components are good quality, the chits are small, but they work. The chit box is great, it looks like a field ration kit, the card quality is great, big cards, bright artwork, and everything is very thematic to the source material. If you want to see a solo playthrough, One stop co-op shop has one on YouTube. If you enjoyed the Lost Expedition game, then you'll enjoy this.The only reason I gave it a 4-5 stars is because there's a lot of randomness, and not really alot of ways to change things.

I've tried about 7 of the songs so far and except for a few (very insignificant) parts in the theme song (Singin' in the Rain) the songs sound great and are fun to play. I just received this, but have glanced thru contents, features, etc., & it seems to have a wealth of information & helps. There are lots of footnotes, explanations, "Guided Tours", "People to Know", different methods of studying the Bible, various reading guides, & many other helpful features.I do have a question to anyone who cares to answer, as to how this compares with the "regular" NIV Study Bible. Are there many or major differences? Is there any advantage to having both versions?I do recommend this to anyone interested in furthering their study & knowledge of the Bible & strengthening their walk with the Lord.

The NIV student Bible is a great Bible. Over the past 7 years I've often bought this Bible for students in the student ministries at my church. The NIV is a good middle ground between thought for thought and word for word. It's easily approachable for middle and high school students. This Bible has a walk through the Bible which helps students explore Biblical themes more easily.The only downside to this Bible is that due to it's compact nature, the words are quite small. I've had a few students complain about being able to read it well. There is a normal size version of this Bible but it's much bigger and bulkier than this one. If you can overlook that it's a great Bible for students.

This is an excellent Bible. The notes in each chapter are very helpful. The index and alphabetical listings of important people, events, and miracles, as well as famous passages, like The Lord's Prayer, are extremely useful. This is a clear translation based on modern linguistics. I highly recommend this version of the Bible to anyone new to Christianity, or to anyone who has grown up in a tradition that does not focus on reading and memorizing the Bible. It is very user-friendly and accessible.

If you are looking for a great printed version of the Bible to give to a teen/tween/young adult, this is the one to pick up! I am a pastor now, and I was a youth pastor for fifteen years, and I have given hundreds of these away to young people. In the very near future I will be buying a copy for my own kids (as soon as they are old enough to read it). Not only that, but the NIV Student Bible was around when I was a teenager, and I still have the one given to me when I was a young man. Everything that made it great for my own personal study has been maintained and improved over the years.Here are some of my favorite features:- From the moment you open it up there are in-text "helps" (think signposts) that help direct you so that you can navigate the Bible easily (note: this is not reviewing the Kindle edition - I have not seen that)- There are many in-text sidebars that give very brief, yet helpful explanations about what you are reading. There aren't so many that it takes up too much space, but there are enough to help a reader have some crucial "aha moments" while reading.- Reading Plans: There are three great reading plans ("tracks") available to guide someone who wants to read through the Bible but doesn't know where to start. The first time I read through the Bible entirely I used the "track" that takes you through the entire Bible in three years (requires reading about 5 min. a day).- Introductions to Books of the Bible: Accessible and simple, these give the reader an idea of how the particular book fits into the larger Biblical narrative.- "Cool Factor:" I know... this seems like it should not matter, but if you expect a teen/young adult to leave a Bible out in their room or carry it around, this is a factor. I love that the Student Bible's design is simple, yet clearly tailored to young people. It doesn't have the cheesy designs of some kid Bibles or the stuffy academic style of adult study Bibles.My final comment has to do with translation version for those of you curious about the NIV. I personally have moved beyond using the NIV for my personal study and teaching since taking Biblical Hebrew and Greek because of some rather sloppy translation in places. They came out with the NIrV, which was a much better translation, but it was not made available in the Student Bible and it was largely shot down by those who objected to the "inclusive language." That being said, the NIV is still one of the best translations for striking a middle ground in the English language between too simple and too many big words and I don't have any qualms about using it when teaching youth.

This is the bible I turn to for readability. BUT, the print in this particular edition is so small I can barely read it. I'm 74 so if you are young and have very good eyesight, it may be ok for you. The translation is wonderful. Actually is more a paraphrase than a translation, but I really feel it is true to the heart of the matter. I think Jesus would like it. But in any event, I do and after 7 years of serious bible study, mostly NIV translation, I am comfortable with this version. It has given me a lot of insight Now, if I could only get it in a type size I can read. Sigh.

I bought this Bible for a student of mine. It's wonderful, because it breaks it down for students to understand the Bible better and want to learn. It isn't the same as a children's Bible (which I think are the easiest to learn from), but once your students already have an idea and understand the concepts, this is a wonderful tool.My only problem with the item was that it was labeled as new, in packaging. Well yes, there was a very thin layer of plastic surrounding the book, but it already had 2 large holes in it (which did not look appealing), so I paid more for the New book, but ended up needing to take the plastic wrapping off anyway before giving it as a gift for a better, physical-looking appeal.Otherwise, yes I do recommend this product.

I ended up returning this. I had bought for the older kids in our church Bible study but found it incredibly lacking. The print was small, the reference materials were few and there were not the descriptive commentaries throughout that I wanted for them. I returned and purchased what I should have gotten them in the first place. The Quest Study Bible.

About the Author

Plutarch (c.50-c.120 AD) was a writer and thinker born into a wealthy, established family of Chaeronea in central Greece. He received the best possible education in rhetoric and philosophy, and traveled to Asia Minor and Egypt. Later, a series of visits to Rome and Italy contributed to his fame, which was given official recognition by the emperors Trajan and Hadrian. As with any historical work, this edition of Plutarch should be reviewed for two things: the quality of the edition, including the translation, introduction, notes, etc, and how enjoyable reading the work is. Of course, anyone who wants to read Plutarch is going to do so. Therefore this review is targeted at people looking for the right edition of Plutarch, and those looking for a book that's simply fun to read.This edition is perfectly adequate and a great value although the introduction and maps are both meager and largely unhelpful. The translation by Ian Scott-Kilvert is easy to read and clear. The notes are helpful and are put in as footnotes, rather than endnotes, so the reader doesn't have to flip to the back of the book constantly. The selection of Lives is great for anyone interested in classical Athens. It includes Theseus, Solon, Themistocles, Aristides, Cimon, Pericles, Nicias, Alcibiades, and Lysander (the Spartan). Price-wise, the book is also quite cheap.Plutarch is not one of the most popular Greek writers, but for anyone interested in the history of ancient Greece or in the classics more generally, he is very helpful. His Lives make it easy to learn about the history without reading the longer books of Thucydides, Herodotus, and Xenophon. Plutarch does tend to view his subjects through rose-tinted glasses, but overall his portrayals are fair. He gives both sides to a story when there is disagreement among the sources he used. All in all, he is a great historian and anyone interested in ancient Greek history should enjoy reading him.

Even though I liked this book, Plutarch really does not know his subjects that well. Plutarch enjoys making each of his characters into moral lessons. So, there may be truth behind the writing but do not take it full on. Takes a story and takes bad qualities and rewrites to a moral lesson. Plutarch emphasizes qualities for his own purposes. Read critically.

I'm a college prof and assign Plutarch to my students. The Penguin editions are not as good as the Oxford ones. Oxford has MUCH better footnotes, and the translations are more accurate.

It's a classic and it's Plutarch.

This book does a disservice to the academic community. Obviously intended for undergraduates or those who may have some interest in the classics, Penguin has chopped up some of Plutarch's Parallel Lives of the Greeks and Romans and presented them as a history of the Rise and Fall of Athens. There are two primary problems with this method of presentation.First, Plutarch's aim in writing this work was to highlight the parallels between Greek and Roman public figures and show in each the importance of a virtuous character. By selecting only the Greek lives Penguin deliberately subverts the author's explicit intention.Second, Plutarch's lives are meant, not as history, but as moral exemplars. By no means is this text anything like an account of The Rise and Fall of Athens. The reader will gain no insight into what made Athens so distinctive and important to Western civilization. Even Thucydides' account of the Peloponnesian war gives more insight into Athens' distinctiveness (see Pericles' Funeral Oration) and, moreover, is a work of real history.I am not sure what the editors at Penguin were thinking in selecting these lives and selling the book as the Rise and Fall of Athens (a hackneyed phrase if ever there was one). Interested readers should turn to one of the many versions of the Lives available on the internet before wasting their money on this dismemberment of Plutarch.
