About the Author

Greg has been climbing since 1994, and he can tell you every move on every route heÂ’s done, draw a topo from memory, give you his opinion on the rating of any pitch, repeat anything written in any guidebook, and tell you about the weather that day. He is Director of the American Safe Climbing Association. Between March 2001 and November 2002, Greg spearheaded the replacement of 482 bolts in Red Rocks canyons, including most of the long routes in this guidebook. He and other ASCA volunteers work long and hard to restore deteriorating bolts. Greg lives in Bishop, Yosemite, Tuolumne, Joshua Tree, and Red Rocks and develops SuperTopos for these areas.

Its a good book if you're trad climbing, it has the majority of the routes in it. If you really want to know all the routes and have a ton of information, there are better guide books out there for Red Rocks.

I've got every Red Rocks guide ever published, which is about 10 books, including a really old one published in Rock and Ice around 1982. This guide is not comprehensive but contains a good selection of classic long routes. One thing I enjoyed was the historical information on each route. For example, Triassic Sands has a section on the history of this climb that can't be found anywhere else.However, if you just want to get up these routes you may think all this history is unnecessary. Red Rocks is a difficult area for one guide book as there are such a wide variety of climbs, from single pitch sport routes to multi-pitch sport routes to full day trad affairs. This book does seem to emphasize the latter and if you are more into sport climbing you are probably better off buying one of the comprehensive guides.The photos in this book are superb. The online version, in particular, has some really good shots. I guess they reproduce better on a monitor than on paper.

To all the negative reviewers who complain about route selection: Supertopo guides have *never* been about having a comprehensive route listing. Instead, they are meant to give very detailed route descriptions, which this guide does in spades. I do agree it could use a few more photographs to make it easier to find the start for the various routes. Otherwise, it has never led me astray.

Compared to more recent publications, especially Red Rocks, a Climber's Guide, this book is next to useless. It's out-of-date and access descriptions are minimal causing much confusion and lost time. Getting to the routes quickly is important if you want to climb in the shade.Some of the best areas are not even mentioned. Photos are small and limited. Route descriptions themselves are good as are the line drawings of the routes, but overall coverage is limited.

While the appearence of this guide is attractive and the information accurate it fails by being too selective in the routes it describes.If you're headed to Red Rocks, check out Red Rocks: A Climber's Guide by Jerry Handren and Southern Nevada Bouldering Southern Nevada Bouldering by Tom Moulin. Both have high artistic values and are comprehensive.

This the most useless climbing guide I have ever seen.There are 3 guidebooks available for Red Rocks. The best one one is the new eddition of Mountaineers guide edited by Roxanne Brock, which is a very comrehensive, and gives good route descriptions pitch by pitch. It is similar to 'Falcon' guide; in fact it is a copy of it with much improved topos and graphics. It is also somewhat better organized then 'Falcon' guide and provides stellar guide for each route; very helpful. I definitely recommend it.The only good thing about supertopo guide are actually topos but unfortunately the number of routes described in this book is very limited. I can only guess that the author included only routes he has done, otherwise I cannot understandthe reason of producing the guidebook to a fenomenal climbing area including only 10% routes or so.Second problem with the book is a lack of detailed route descriptions; instead the author decided to suggest strategy of doing the route consisting of a statement such as that the route is very popular and you should start early to be first in line to avoid waiting in the que; I guess this is really difficult to figure out yourself.Third problem with the book is the lack of directions on how to get to the route. OK after few days and after talking to other climbers, who have climbed there for few days, you can get a good orientation but if you don't have anyone to ask for directions, you cannot work-out from this book.The book looks impressive if you never climbed in Red Rocks, but if you did, it is absolutely useless, unless you really want to limit yourself to a small number of routes described in the book.So do yourself a favor and don't waste your money for this particular book; go for Mountaineers guide, it is very good and useful. Besides it is cheaper. I bought this book because it was offered in the electronic form and I could print it out and reap easily pages with topos for the route.And go climbing in Red Rocks, it is really a stellar climbing area.

Austin not only talked about his talents, but painted a picture on how everyone has been given their own talents; all unique, but none less important than the other. What does it mean to live to give? It starts with knowing the reason God put you on this earth. God has something for you to do. He has given you a gift and when you use it, it keeps in giving. Austin knows that God could do it all Himself. Yet, for some reason, God chooses people to solve the world's problems.Austin has written this book to help young people understand what they have been living for and what they were made to be living for. He uses the example of the boy in John 6 with the lunch to show that each person is unique. He helps his readers find out what their spiritual gifts are.He continues to use the idea of the lunch to teach several spiritual lessons. He has the knack of telling a very interesting story then associating a truth lesson with it. For example, oven baked, Chicago style pizza can take forty-five minutes to bake. But, "Like many good things, it's worth the wait." (124) He goes on to write about waiting for God to produce results in your giving. Like planting a garden, results might not come for months.Austin declares, "Nothing beats living this way! Nothing we could eat, drink, buy, play, watch, or win in life can compare to the feeling of giving ourselves away..." (11)His final encouragement is to start where you are. "Be willing to let Him use you and your lunch." (190)This is a great book for teens. Austins gives man examples of young people who are giving their lives away. He relates stories of Bible characters. And he adds just the right amount of humor.There are discussion questions at the end of each chapter so this would be a perfect book for a group study.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the LitFuse Publicity Group for the purpose of this review.

Recently I've been meeting with a young man, and we've been talking about how God uses us, our gifts, and even our finances to help others for His glory. I gave him a copy of the book the God Pocket by Bruce Wilkinson that has an extremely practical way that we can purposively live this out.And then I received a copy of Austin Gutwein's Live to Give. Wow!Gutwein is the exact same age as the young man I've been meeting with, 18, and the author has wisdom far beyond his years. It's amazing that God chose this young man when he was only nine to change the lives of thousands in Africa through a ministry he formed called Hoops for Hope. And he's been building clinics, schools, and feeding the hungry there ever since.Live to Give is all about how God uses what we have to help others. One of the biggest things I took away from the book was Gutwein's illustration of the young boy who brought the loaves and fishes that Jesus used to feed the five thousand. The disciples went all through the crowd to see what food was available, and this was the only person who remembered to bring his lunch, and he gave it up to Jesus.Likewise we might be the only person in the crowd who has what God wants to use to help the multitude. Are we willing to give it up to Him?I'd highly recommend this book. I received a copy of this book free from the publisher for review. This review was originally published on Manifest Blog.

This was a very inspiring book. Most of the time while I was reading it I forgot how young the author is. He has a very mature way of writing. Then there were times that he would say something that would "snap" me back to reality and I'd realize just how young he was. It was amazing to read his story. To think, someone so young has done something so fantastic with his life already! Just imagine all the amazing things he's yet to accomplish.I liked that the message focused on the little boy who gives his lunch to Jesus, and Jesus performs a miracle using that boy's lunch. This boy and his seemengly meager lunch was used to feed thousands of people! While it's a story we're all familiar with I'd never really focused that much attention to it. Gutwein shows how something so simple can become something much more significant if we allow ourselves to give our gifts to God.This book was so well written, as I said earlier I kept forgetting how young the author is. But I think his youth is what makes this book so enjoyable. He's so enthusiastic about his message - the kind of enthusiasm children often have about everything. Not only does his enthusiasm show through but he's able to take the concepts he's trying to convey and make them so simple.I know this book is geared towards children, teens, and young adults but I think the message is one what we all can benefit from. As we get older I think we tend to feel as if we don't have anything left to contribute or that our gifts aren't as "strong" as they were when we were young and we had the enthusiasm and energy we used to have. But through Gutwein's words I realized that as long as I give my gifts - no matter how insignificant I may think they are - that they can be used to do something wonderful. My gifts can be a miracle for someone else.This was an amazing book with a awesome message. Not only is this book very encouraging it is also is energizing. It made me really look at my life and start working on some of my gifts so that I can start to help others with them. I've already got a few small projects ready to go!

I’ve been spending a lot of time lately in WW II HF that I’ve ventured off to other eras and locations for the time being. Utah in the 1880’s is heavy with Mormons, the aftermath of the Mountain Massacre and killing of its leader, Joseph Smith, leaves a bitter taste for some. In a little place called Junction a late night caller sets in motion a series of events with everlasting consequences.I will admit at the beginning wondering if this book was for me. First off I was excited when the first chapter featured a male POV, it's not common so when it happens I get excited. Of course, the whole book was divided between his (Nels) and Deborah’s story. Why was I a bit iffy you ask, well I found the first female chapter a little repetitive with the same feelings, emotions repeating itself. I found myself casing judgment on Deborah's character before really getting to know her. As the story progressed those feelings quickly disappeared. It wasn’t just a story of what was happening in the now but memories resurfaced where I got to know both Deborah and Nels better. How they ended up in this little place with few neighbors and away from Mormon communities. The author wove those jumps in time seamlessly, with an ease that made this story flow at a nice pace.The Glovemaker is a unique mystery, it’s a story of survival, hope, and faith. Ann Weisgarber is a new author to me with her previous books now gracing my tbr pile. Definitely a book I recommend, especially to those that like a good historical mystery off the beaten path.

-1 star and returned. HERES WHY! This is a great book, shows animals, dinasoars, a select few examples of mixed looking creatures and specific steps and considerations in creating them. BUT THERE WAS ONE MAIN THING MISSING THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. Imaginary design. For example: the brainstorming behind ... well, Pokémon, or final fantasy creatures. The different characteristics of ... say... dragons from Asia and Europe and how they differ based on those specific characteristics, or anatomy. Taking the anatomy of a lizard or a wolf and combining that with the design of a unique dragon of your own and like design methods. Using anatomy as a basis for creating zombie creatures. And LOTs more visual examples of figures, characteristics, figure drawing methods, combinations, muscular structures functioning and how that affects appearance. The creative design part is what I wanted... and what I didn’t get to my satisfaction in this book. I received it today and decided to return it today... it’s still a good book, but could be more precise in its description and title. And would be 10x better if it included everything I have listed here... because that how much further they could have taken it as a creature design book.

Amazing book for animal anatomy and one of the only text I have found on Paleo-Reconstruction. Really gets to the bottom on how to draw from skeleton, to adding muscles and finally adding the skin and fur. I can't say enough about this book. Thank you Terryl for putting this resource in one concise volume. The book I have been looking for, for quiet sometime. A++++ Buy this book if drawing animals is your thing!

This artist is among the greatest animal illustrators of this or any other century. Her latest work is no exception. As a fantasy/wildlife artist myself, I can't imagine a more awe-inspiring, supremely helpful and just plain mesmerizing series of books. The price may seem high, but is in fact very affordable considering the value of the investment. I plan to continue purchasing everything she produces as long as she maintains this quality, and will most likely purchase separate copies for my artistic daughter as well. I would place this item in the same class as Gurney's Dinotopia and other works, and that is high praise indeed. Kudos, Ms. Whitlatch.

What can I say...Terryl Whitlatch is in a league of her own. This book was bought by my son with his own money because he couldn't check it out enough at the library! He absolutely loves the depth and insight into the creative process that Terryl offers in this book. My son has notes and post-its throughout the book and has been inspired to draw numerous renderings of creatures he is designing from the skeleton on up through muscle structure and thinking about the environment the creature will live in before designing the skin. He would HIGHLY recommend this book to other aspiring artists and designers.

When you read this book you will more than likely disagree with what brother Tozer has written. But, if you sit down and think it through, with Gods Word at your side you will find one more area where the church has compromised itself once more. If we are to be true followers of Jesus, then we must be willing to do and to live exactly as He has commanded us to do.

This is an excellent book! Tozer has an amazing heart for God that stands out on every page. He really seems to understand that God is God and He can do whatever He chooses, He can speak however He chooses to speak & He can use whatever He chooses in His creation to speak. Filter all that through His attributes of love, mercy, grace and justice and we serve an amazing God! I love his books!

AW Tozer writes with much conviction and passion His insight into the Holy Spirit is amazing. Which could only be conceived by much prayer and meditation in God's Word. This book has made me open my eyes to a few things that I need to consider. Than God for this book. Enjoy the read.

Tozer's book God Still Speaks has the same relevance as if it was written today. We learn what the voice of God really means, not just limit ourselves to the written ourselves to beleive that the voice of God is only whats written, which is limited by Ink and paper but a voice that still has power throught the centuries and still has meaning and power. Tozer is still one of the greatest apologist and theologist.

I chose this rating because I have a deep desire for revival in the body of Christ. I'm thinking that the church must certainly mature in our day. now I wonder also if many believe that they are saved yet are acute not. tozier has some good insights.

Although I did not Agee with all the views Tozer espoused in this book, it is still a five because it challenges me to look more closely at my choices in light of holiness required by a Holy God.

I ordered this for my mom and she loves A..W. Tozer so I am sure she loves this book.

interesting book. I am reading it a second because there is a lot to remeber when reading.
