This really doesn't have very much useful for someone who owns, is trying to sell, or considering buying a 2001-2009 Jaguar X-Type. I was hoping for something more specific and enlightening: what to look for, what components go notoriously/consisnetly bad, what improvements and major changes were made over the model years.Although I loved my X-type, my essential buyer's advice is this: 1) Don't. (Buy 2007/2008 S-Type instead), or 2) if you really want an X-Type: stick with a 2004 or later model, 3) if you're even considering buying an early model X-type, check out the # on top of the transmission (located below the brake fluid container) to make sure it doesn't have the recalled transmission plus... check out underneath, see that the "air scoop" for the transfer case has undoubtedly broken off, and use that to make sure you get it for below KBB, and 4) realize that you have to take off the intake manifold just to access the rear 3 spark plugs, which consequently (due to the difficulty) have probably never been replaced short of the previous owner doing it themselves or paying $900-$1200 to get it done.Those are a sample of what I consider essential buyer's information!!!

After purchasing my 2005 Jaguar (S Type R) I wanted a book for reference and pictures.This book is very simple, short on pictures and not that informative. You can learn much more about the car on YouTube.Skip the book and watch some videos!

I wish there were buying guides like this for all vehicles. We are told Jaguars can be a bit temperamental but are never told about what problems can occur. As a long time fan of Jaguar this guide answers those questions and gives buyers the knowledge and confidence they need to make that next move into owning one of these great cars.

Worse, he so debased the archives that they could never be entirely relied upon again. Provenance is a real life thriller and detective yarn, a factual account of a singular and elaborate scam. It provides a knowledgeable glimpse into the shady machinations, the greed and dangers of a secretive art world in which huge amounts of money change hands daily. It also delves into the strange world of John Drewe, a highly intelligent, inventive, but totally corrupt figure, a sociopath and pathological liar whose life is driven by falsehoods and fantasy. Provenance is a smoothly written and well researched book, a true account of remarkable events, one that is both instructive and pleasurable to read.

Published in 2009 after the death of one of the couple of authors this in depth presentation of an extraordinary series of art and documentation forgeries ever.Years of research were required to effectively present the deeds or misdeeds of John Drewe who seem to become the characters he pretended to be - a physicist, an heir to a remarkable art collection, a Mossad agent, a consultant to the British Atomic Energy Commission and the list goes on. All the while cleverly documenting and selling "modern masterpieces" to the leading dealers in London and elsewhere.John Myatt - failed painter is swept into this whirlwind of activity and doing a reasonably good job of creating masterpieces by Ben Nicholson, Roger Bissiere, Braques and Giacometti, Graham Sutherland et al.Drewe prepared an "authentic" provenance for each work and then used "runners" to present and sell them to the likes of Leslie Waddington, Daniel Stern, Peter Nahum among many others. Upwards of 200 works were made and sold.Drewe parlayed each meeting and relationship into a probable sale.Eventually he was caught and convicted but it took hard work, chance and luck to bring him down. He was never repentant and was also not out to embarrass the art world. Rather his success was aided by the lax standards where greed is involved.Although it is a tale related to the modern art world it seems more a story of the disintegration of moral and ethical standards in our world. The authors simply and clearly describe the facts and the events but the take away for me seems much more tragic and universal.

I very much enjoyed this book. I learned quite a lot about how the "art world" works. The story is a compelling one, the research seems solid, the writing is fluent and engaging, and the book is a remarkably easy read when you consider how much technical material is covered in it. The authors have a real knack for descriptive writing, making things that the reader cannot see real and solid in the mind's eye.However, there were three things that I found frustrating about the book. First, the lack of illustrations -- it seems as if the book would have been stronger if there had been images to help the non-expert understand the ways in which the forged pieces were good and the ways in which they fell short. Second, I was left with real curiosity about what Drewe had been doing prior to this scheme. I wish that the authors had managed to uncover this information. it seems odd to me that where they are willing to make educated guesses (always identified as such!) about other things, they had no theories to advance about this particular point. And finally, I find myself wondering where the painting Myatt says he did not do came from.These are minor quibbles, and should in no way stop anyone with an interest in art, in confidence games, or in interesting well-told stories from picking this book up and getting a great deal of enjoyment out of it.

This is an excellent overview of traditional disk management with FreeBSD. In due course with Michael Lucas' other work, he is clear, concise, and right to the point with everything you need. One thing to note, this does not provide in-depth coverage on ZFS. This is traditional disk management using GEOM and UFS. I believe that he is planning a ZFS book all to itself, which is probably a good idea. Excellent work here, looking forward to all of the future releases in his IT Mastery series.

Very well written and complete, as far as it goes. I really wish Mr. Lucas had included ZFS in this volume instead of making us buy the next in the series to get that information.

VERY informative! I have been using FreeBSD since 4.3 in some fashion. This book is great at bringing me from low-level stuff like gpart and geom to different flags for file system creation. Sometimes as an admin, you are rushed and do what you know is easier. You do not format or create file systems very often. Or at least I that is what I did. This book was a very welcoming read for me. It has cleared up several concepts that I thought I knew. It is my new reference books. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

The thing about reading Lucas: it's clear, insightful, and often humorous.

Easy to read, easy to understand and very interesting book.

I am switching to FreeBSD and found Michael Lucas's book a very valuable tool in understanding how FreeBSD storage works. Well worth the money! (Disclaimer: I know Michael, but if the book weren't good, I would NOT have posted a review)

INTRODUCTION At Yale University, researchers turned our understanding of type 2 diabetes on its head. At the time, a common belief was that diabetes was caused by eating too much sugar or too many carbohydrate-rich foods, such as bread or potatoes. That was an understandable notion, because people with diabetes have too much sugar in their bloodstreams. It made sense to think that maybe the whole problem was that they had too much candy, soda, bread, etc., in their diets. Hundreds of guides were written advising people to limit sugar, potatoes, fruit, pasta, beans, and other sweet or starchy foods. Unfortunately, these dietary changes didn’t help very much.   But using a high-tech scanning technology called magnetic resonance spectroscopy, the Yale researchers looked inside the cells of people with diabetes, and what they found revolutionized our understanding of this disease.   Hidden inside muscle and liver cells, the Yale team found microscopic particles of fat. This was not belly fat or thigh fat; it was fat inside the muscle and liver cells. It had come from the foods the research participants had been eating, and it had lodged in their cells. Once inside, those fat particles kept sugar from entering the cells. More specifically, the fat particles interfered with insulin—the hormone that normally escorts sugar into cells. If insulin can no longer move sugar into cells, sugar builds up outside your cells, in your bloodstream.   In other words, diabetes isn’t caused by eating too much sugar or carbohydrate. Rather, it apparently starts with fat building up inside the cells. And that causes insulin resistance—insulin no longer works normally. And it also became clear that the answer to type 2 diabetes is not to avoid potatoes, bread, fruit, or other sweet or starchy foods, but rather to counteract the fat buildup inside the cells.   At the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, our research team has been working on ways to do just that. We tested a diet that had no animal fat at all and very little vegetable oil. In theory, this ought to cause that intracellular fat buildup to start to disappear. In a head-to-head test, we compared this low-fat vegan diet with a conventional “diabetes diet” in people with type 2 diabetes.   The results were spectacular. After 22 weeks, the vegan diet led to a threefold greater improvement in blood sugar control, compared with the conventional diabetes diet. This was all the more remarkable because the people on the conventional diet were carefully limiting their portions and trying not to overdo it on carbs, while the vegan group participants were free to eat as much food as they wished, with no limits on calories, carbohydrates, or portion sizes, and they made no changes to their exercise patterns or medications. The dietary change alone slashed their blood sugar levels. They also improved their cholesterol levels and lost weight. It turned out to be an extraordinarily powerful dietary approach to diabetes and all the health problems that go with it.   If this wonderful news is something you have not heard before—or if your doctor never mentioned any of this—the reason is that our National Institutes of Health study findings were first published by the American Diabetes Association in Diabetes Care in 2006, and some doctors are still treating diabetes based on the knowledge they picked up before that date. Moreover, in medical training, pharmaceuticals have eclipsed nutrition—even for conditions like diabetes or high cholesterol levels, where food choices are the central consideration. Doctors have focused their attention on drugs, even though food changes are often safer, more powerful, and much more patient-friendly.   HOW DOES IT TASTE? How did the participants feel about this way of eating? After all, they were not eating meat, cheese, or any other animal products, and greasy french fries and oily foods were out, too. Did they like the food, or did they feel deprived? To answer that question, we asked our participants about their dietary changes in great detail. And they told us that this new approach was life-changing. Not only was it powerful; many were also surprised to find that it was easier than other diets—much easier than limiting calories or counting carbohydrate grams, and a great relief from the low-carb diets that made them feel guilty for wanting a slice of bread or a baked potato.   Because they were free to eat as much as they wanted, they were never hungry. And the wide range of dishes and delicious flavors included in the plan meant that they were really enjoying eating, as opposed to resigning themselves to the bland diets many had been on before. They tried new flavors, new recipes, new food products, and new restaurant choices. For many, the experience was less like a diet and more like an adventure. Take a look at the recipes in this book, and you’ll see what I mean. There are wonderful tastes waiting for you.   Most importantly, our participants were rewarded. Unwanted weight disappeared without exercise. Their need for medications fell day by day. Many reported having more energy than they had had in years. Their laboratory tests looked better and better. And they felt power and a sense of control over their diabetes that they had never felt before.   So if you would like to lose weight, tackle diabetes, or improve other health conditions, you have come to the right place. I wish you the very best of health!     SWEET POTATO BREAKFAST BITES   MAKES 12   Sweet potatoes bring natural sweetness to these miniature muffin-like snacks. 1 1/2 cups precooked and cooled sweet potato (see Note)   1/2 cup pure maple syrup 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1 1/4 cups rolled oats 1 cup oat flour 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (optional; can substitute another 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon) 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon sea salt 2–3 tablespoons raisins or sugar-free nondairy chocolate chips (optional)   1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.   2. In a medium bowl, mash the sweet potato. Add the syrup and vanilla and stir to combine. Add the oats, oat flour, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice (if using), baking powder, and salt, and mix until well combined. Add the raisins or chips (if using), and stir to combine. Refrigerate for 5 to 10 minutes. Scoop 1 1/2 tablespoon rounds of the mixture onto the parchment, spacing them 1 to 2 inches apart. Bake for 17 to 18 minutes, or until set to the touch. Remove from the oven, and let cool.   NOTE: It’s always helpful to have precooked sweet potato in the fridge. It will keep for 5 to 6 days to use in recipes. Baking brings out the best flavor and is very easy to do. Just place whole sweet potatoes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 450°f for 40 to 60 minutes, or until very soft. (Cooking time will depend on the size of the sweet potato.) To measure, you just need to remove the peel and break up the sweet potato into a measuring cup.   NUTRITIONAL FACTS Per 2–Breakfast Bite serving: 251 calories, 6 g protein, 52 g carbohydrates, 19 g sugar, 2 g total fat, 8% calories from fat, 5 g fiber, 281 mg sodium   EDAMAME-AVO PASTA   MAKES 4 SERVINGS   This sauce can be prepared in minutes and is lusciously satisfying! This is a very kid-friendly pasta, as well.   1/2 cup edamame, blanched (see Edamame Note) 1 cup cubed or sliced avocado (1 1/2–2 small or medium avocados) 1/4 cup parsley leaves (see Parsley Note) 1 small–medium clove garlic 1/2 tablespoon chickpea miso 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup 2–2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice 3/4–1 teaspoon sea salt 1 1/4–1 1/2 cups water 1 pound dry pasta 3 tablespoons sliced kalamata olives for serving (optional)   1. In a blender, combine the edamame, avocado, parsley, garlic, miso, syrup, 2 tablespoons of the lemon juice, 3/4 teaspoon of the salt, and 1 1/4 cups of the water. Puree until very smooth. If it’s very thick and not pureeing, add the remaining 1/4 cup water. Taste, and add the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice, if desired. (Note that if you are adding olives to your final pasta dish, they will also add saltiness.)   2. When ready to serve, cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain and return the pasta to the pot (not over heat). Add the pasta sauce and toss thoroughly, adding the olives (if using). Serve immediately!   EDAMAME NOTE: Add the edamame to a pot of boiling water. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, then rinse in a colander under very cold water. If you cannot consume soy, try substituting green chickpeas. PARSLEY NOTE:  Parsley really brightens the color of this puree. If you aren’t fond of the flavor, you can substitute fresh basil leaves or omit it altogether. SERVING NOTE:  This sauce will oxidize slightly, so is best served the same day you’ve prepared it, optimally within a few hours.   NUTRITIONAL FACTS Per serving: 599 calories, 22 g protein, 104 g carbohydrates, 4 g sugar, 10 g total fat, 14% calories from fat, 9 g fiber, 535 mg sodium     MANGO NICE CREAM   MAKES 4 SERVINGS   This dessert has the creamy, light texture of gelato, with the sweetness reined in. It is just delicious.   2 cups frozen mango chunks 1 cup frozen, sliced, overripe banana (can use room temperature, but must be overripe) Pinch of sea salt 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1/4 cup + 1–2 tablespoons low-fat nondairy milk 2–3 tablespoons coconut nectar or pure maple syrup (optional)   In a food processor or high-speed blender (see Note), combine the mango, banana, salt, vanilla, and 1/4 cup of the milk. Pulse to get things moving, and then puree, adding the remaining 1 to 2 tablespoons milk if needed. Taste, and add the nectar or syrup, if desired. Serve, or transfer to an airtight container and freeze for an hour or more to set more firmly before serving.   NOTE: If you don’t have a high-speed blender, use a food processor instead. While you can use a standard blender here, it has a harder time working through the frozen fruit with this amount of liquid, so you may need more liquid than is optimal for the recipe.   NUTRITIONAL FACTS Per serving: 116 calories, 1 g protein, 29 g carbohydrates, 22 g sugar, 0.5 g total fat, 4% calories from fat, 2 g fiber, 81 mg sodium

Our family is a Whole Food Plant Based family. I am married to a family physician who teaches his patients about this life saving eating lifestyle. We are always on the lookout for GOOD recipes to share with patients. Dreena Burton has done a fantastic job creating recipes for this cookbook for Dr Barnard. I have tried a number of these recipes. This is a 5 star choice. (Plant Based Families is also an excellent choice) This cookbook however is better for those who are avoiding oils that are not in their original packaging ( i.e. choosing to eat olives in preference to olive oil or whole nuts instead of nut oils.) The recipes I have tried and really enjoyed are: Lentil Minestrone - sturdy stew-like. Pizza, Pizza - delicious; Orange Tofu - easy and fabulous with the Coconut Rice and Broiled Asparagus; Rad Thai! - over the top good. I used Barilla thin spaghetti with it. Soft-Baked Tamari Tofu - YES; - I press it first in a press, dice into 1/2" cubes and toss in the tamari. Jamaican Stew - great! I used sweet potatoes instead of plantain. The Thai Corn and Sweet Potato Stew is fantastic. I served it with brown rice on the side. If I double it I will use 1/2 tofu and 1/2 black beans. Twice the tofu would be too much and the beans would add to it already amazing rainbow of colors. Wow.

I purchased this book for my sister a few months ago. She has been eating plant based for about 2 months now, but this book has also helped with her sugars. Her fasting blood sugar continues to improve! This lifestyle is truly the greatest for diabetics. Would recommend!

The recipes are easy to follow, the ingredients are mostly easy to find, and as someone who is a newbie to vegan cooking, I found the recipes to be quite tasty. The lemon pineapple muffins are a good place to start, and many of the bean recipes (for entrees) are also super easy. My energy level was better after about a week. I don’t have diabetes, but an autoimmune disease, and have read that this type of diet will help me as well.

Thank you. I bought this for a friend of my husband (male) who took my advice and has taken up plant based eating. He is no longer on insulin, weight loss, etc, etc. Makes him very happy and makes me happy too. The advice was actually from the two books I gave him -- one by Dr Bernard and one by Dr McDougall.

Everything Dr. Barnard writes is worth reading. Period. Doctors like him (Esselstyn, McDougall, Campbell, Popper, etc.) are revolutionizing medicine. I dearly hope to live to see the day when our society has truly embraced the nutrition-based health philosophy of these medical pioneers, and by following their wisdom, I undoubtedly will!

Having just received my copy yesterday I dug right in and tried the Cauli-Curry Bean Soup - AMAZING - FLAVOR GALORE! I cannot wait to work my way through the entire cookbook. This is an excellent addition to any kitchen library.

Just got the book the other day and have already made 4 recipes! All of them were easy and delicious. The miso rice cakes were to die for with the mango hemp sauce over arugula--and my husband, who is not a whole food plant based enthusiast, said they were a 10. The beautiful photography is such an asset and appetite boost. Thank you so much to Dreena and Dr. Barnard for this amazing addition to my kitchen library which I know will be stained and worn out soon!

Awesome easy to make recipes, creative and full of flavor. I’m not a diabetic, I purchased this book for the healthful recipes and so far every recipe I have made has been a slam dunk. Dreena Burton is a genius in the kitchen.

I reading this the second time as there is so much good information to try and absorb. I find that it provides a good balance between things that you can attempt on your own and when you should head to the emergency room right away.I believe this book is very well suited to have in your library as a reference. If you find yourself needing it right away as in an emergency, the text is not suited for quick on the spot prognosis of most ailments. You need to have read this book in advance and really understood the things that he is describing.

Dr. Auerbach's book is simply an amazing accomplishment, in a very small space he has managed to pack so much! This is THE book if you had to have one (which of course you shouldn't!) to take with you on a march into the wilds fleeing an apocalyptic collapse of the world as we know it. It assumes knowledge, but you don't need to be an EMT or medical student to use it.The information on each topic (everything from wildfires, to hypothermia, to terrorism or snake bite, it's all here) comes with great step-by-step guides on how to deal with it. A must have for any library and backpack!

This is the third edition of this book I have owned. Each edition is better, more thorough and complete. I approach this book with 40 years of outdoor experience, numerous first aid classes during that time, and having certified as a WFR about 3 months ago. If I could only pick one reference to take with me on a remote expedition, into a disaster zone, or on a foreign trip, this would be the book. (I have the hard copy and keep an electronic copy on my phone and tablet.) It covers the gamut from basic first aid, through more advanced treatment I am trained on, to more advanced treatments (some of which I would try in a real pinch and some I would not attempt). I think it is great reference up through the WFR or EMT level for wilderness medicine, although even more advanced providers may find it useful if they have little or no background or training in wilderness and austere environment. The only persistent knock I have on the book is that its organization is not quite as good as it could be, although I do believe it has improved somewhat with the latest revision and there are copious cross references to help you locate the correct information if you end up in an incorrect but related place.

This concise manual is a must for outdoor enthusiasts. Gives more information than a basics first aid class/manual without having to go through some lengthy EMT class

The book is well written and it covers everything that a layman would need to know. I keep it in a well stocked first aid kit.

Recommended for Emergency Responders and everyone else. Think of it as the Chilton's Manual for Homo sapiens.

This is an excellent resource for wilderness first aid (or anytime EMS will take a long time to arrive). It even includes information on medications and some relatively advanced procedures that can be done in the field.

I have a 3d printer and needed to learn a 3d drawing program to be able to design my own objects. I had never used a computer aided drawing program before, so I downloaded several to try my hand at using them. I have a technical degree but found that the insistence of the CAD programs to implement rules before I was done with my creation to be difficult to intuitively work around. I ordered this book because SketchUp was one of the programs I was evaluating for use. This book is over 500 pages long, but on page 139 I was able to design and print a 'seasonal' dryer vent cover (I made a separate screen to insert into the screen cover that can be rotated inside the main cover to change the size of the vent holes for each season). The book has made me unstoppable!In all seriousness, I do recommend that if you are new to CAD programs that you read each and every page rather than just try to find the first project to create something. If you skip around, you might miss fundamental instructions like which template designs in inches or spend an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out how to accomplish a simple task like how to adjust measurements, how to make sure the measurements are what you want to begin with, how to get rid of the annoying person standing in the middle of the drawing field, and is she really necessary? (I don't find her annoying anymore, the people standing in the frame are named after developers, and s/he isn't necessary). I really like this book and recommend it to anyone who will actually read it as a valuable manual. This book is what made my decision for me to use SketchUp for my 3d modeling. It has given me many 'aha' moments and I am sure there are many more to come in the next 400 pages.I did some homework on several other How To books on SketchUp, but I don't want to draw a house. I wanted a manual that would leave me with a good foundation to create whatever I wanted. I found this book to be that manual. The instructions to export to stl for 3d printing are not mentioned in the manual, and with the new desktop 3d printers I hope the author will give it a nod in any future editions. For anyone modeling for 3d printing, the stl export is a free add-on.

In general, this is a good book...way above the average.... it will be very helpful as a way to learn a very useful program--Sketchup but I regret to have to say that it comes up short, and for really dumb reasons....kinda like the "devil is in the details". I think the author needs to hook up with a better grade of proof readers (maybe some middle school teachers of computers or cad/cam ??) This book is probably the best we've got but so much less than it should be. If you want to learn Sketchup (and every even semi-educated person should (its as basic a tool as Word, Excel or Photoshop) buy the book at the same time you buy the program.

Great book. The lessons are understandable and they will improve your use of the software quickly. I found it easy to read and the lessons straight forward. Nice find!

Detailed manual for Google Sketchup, which is software that lets one design objects for various purposes, including woodworking and 3D printing.

Good place to start. Its written for SketchUp 7, so had to find a stand-alone download for that (in addition to the two I already had: Make and 2015).

Demos are relevant and intuitive.

All the books in the Missing Manual series are great and I've had a large number of them. I constantly recomend them to everyone.
