For those who like a hands-on approach to learning a subject this can be an excellent intro to 3D graphics. Glaeser provides a minimal (and occasionally cryptic) introduction to the subject in prose alongside most of the C source code you will need to implement the concepts. He explains the ideas just enough that you can understand the code.But be forewarned: the floppy disk containing source code is fairly worthless. It does not correspond to the source in the text, it seems to be a much more advanced version of the system he developed on an SGI Iris running Unix. If you happen to have such a machine, perhaps you can get it to compile. But even if you did, you would have a "black box" consisting of a lot of code that is difficult to understand (and with very few comments). I decided instead to type in sections by hand, coming to understand everything I put in, fixing some glaring errors even before compiling, and bringing up sections incrementally. I also had to provide a good bit of my own code to actually make a functioning system. For me this was a good learning experience. The book is valuable but it would benefit by a second edition.The worst part of the book is the license for the software on the disk, which states that you may have no more than one copy and that "Springer-Verlag has the right to audit your computer". Since I didn't wind up using anything from the disk I take it that the license doesn't apply to me, but who knows? A new addition with an "open source" style license and a reworking of the organization would be very welcome.

This book provides a great educational resource for elementary 3D graphics. Even though the algorithms presented may be a bit simplistic compared to, for example, those used in the QuakeIII engine, they offer a great insight into the mathematics behind 3D graphics. C code optimization is also well presented in this book, but again a bit outdated, as modern compilers make macros for speed a thing of the past! This is a great book though, and ALL algorithms described have good mathematical background provided. You can also disregard the source code and use this just as a book on the math behind 3D graphics.Covered are: vectors, matrices, planes, lines, surfaces and all possible intersections thereof. Interpolation is also covered.I took the ideas in this book to write a very efficient C++ class library for my own use, and currently am rewriting for Java. This book is especially good if you only require wire-frame or simple shaded images.The book is also very good on the subject of C programming techniques (and tricks) alone (for those newbies who are scared of pointers, this book will convince you they're worth getting 'under your belt'!!), but as I said, with modern C++ compilers you'd be better off rewriting the code in C++. For example if you write a Vector class and overload the [] operator, all the macros will still work! In the book, they type a vector simply as array of float, ie a pointer, so a macro like:#define sub_vec2(ab, a, b)\ /* 2D vector subtraction */ ( (ab)[0] = (a)[0] - (b)[0],\ (ab)[1] = (a)[1] - (b)[1] )will still work with your class if you overload the [] operator, even though the macro was originally intended for float arrays!As said above, you get the same performance implementing the 3D operations (+,-,scale, magnitude, normalize etc) as member functions rather than (harder to debug) macros.A basic understanding of math and vectors/matrices would be an advantage before reading this book, but the equations are well explained.In a nutshell, this book is DEFINITELY worth a read, just don't expect to be able to write a cutting edge 3D engine from what you learn 8^)

The algorithms provided in this book have nothing to offer over the standard ones everyone uses in the games industry. If you're just getting started, this book might be fine. If you're a professional, stick with Foley/ van Dam and Graphics Gems.

If you're from the old school of C programming, say pre ANSI C, then this book could be really nice for you. Otherwise, save you're $50. Between that and the cluttered, white-space saving, nature of the code in general, just about all the source code snippets are not worth the brain juice used to make sense out of them. A real pity, since a some interesting topics are covered within.

Bob Litwin has done an outstanding job of generalizing the lessons he’s learned from coaching and playing competitive tennis to living a life. These lessons are integrated with his own story of personal rebirth born out of the tragic loss of his first wife. The combination of concrete exercises (he lists 33 Personal Coaching Sessions) enhanced by his personal story makes his Live The Best Story of Your Life a compelling read. Litwin’s basic thesis is a simple one: often the stories which we tell ourselves about ourselves prevent us from achieving our goals or just plain old make us unhappy. Put your Old Story in writing, he says, and get to know it. Then write your New Story as the person you would like to be. His 33 Personal Coaching sessions are the tools which you can use to enable yourself to change. As Litwin is careful to point out, not all 33 Sessions will resonate for every individual in every situation. If a particular Session does not resonate, move on, he says, maybe the next one will. My particular favorites were Celebrate Your Successes/Shrink Your Failures and Fake It ‘Til You Make It. If you’re thinking about making a change, this book is a good place to start.

I have to recommend this book like my hair is on fire. The lessons that Bob tells in this book are life-altering. Bob knows what winning looks like and what comes from both winning and losing. Bob has experienced a wide range of emotions in his life and he puts those to work for the benefit of all of us mortals. I have been looking forward to this book for months. I am very happy that we all can have the benefit of Bob's life's lessons. I must admit that I have met Bob in "real life" and he is all this book represents plus 10X. Bob is personable and sincere and you can tell when you are with Bob that he cares more about improving your world than anything else.

I met Bob several years ago and found his advice on writing a New Story to be sound, relevant, and standing the test of time. When I read that he was putting his words of wisdom in a book, I placed my order even before the publisher's ink had dried. I highly encourage readers to add this book to their libraries or give it to anyone they care about, Bob makes positive, lasting change simple yet effective. His story is compelling and his guidance is needed in today's complex world where people need practical solutions to effect positive change.

Bob’s ‘teach through brief anecdotes’ style in 'Live...life' is extremely impactful and easily relatable. A quick read, you walk away instantly wanting to improve both personal and business relationships equally. I’ve also had the benefit of working with Bob, both in person and over the phone, and he is truly inspirational. The book amplifies his teachings but also stands alone as a terrific resource. This book has a very good selection of quilts (16 in total) that vary in size from 13.25" square (Nine Patch Chain) to 57.5" square (Basket Parade). Some quilts are pieced, some include applique, and one includes pineapple blocks that are paper-pieced. While I'm not a fan of quilt patterns made up of very simple/common blocks but Jo pulls it off. For example, one small quilt named Antiquity (15" x 21") is made up of quarter-square triangles and borders. I'm not exactly sure why, but I found the little quilt charming rather than a waste of book space. There are a few others that are comprised of four-patch blocks yet they all work at being appealing and making me want to dig in my scraps to make them.I find that the way Jo frames the quilts (with borders, setting triangles, etc.) really elevates their appearance.The blocks that comprise the quilts in the book are small...did I mention SMALL? In Antiquity and a quilt Named Winslow Ally, for example, the blocks are only 2"!! Many other quilts have big blocks - like 4" (chuckle).With each quilt Jo writes a little about the quilt or the blocks within as well as how she uses/displays it in her small bungalow. One quilt made me smile because Jo mentioned that she had made the blocks years earlier and then finally combined them into the quilt. (Sounds very familiar...doesn't it?)Even though Jo uses the back-basting applique technique for her applique blocks, any applique technique (even fusible) could be used to successfully complete any of the quilts that include applique elements.Even though many of the quilts include simple fabric pieces, I feel the book may not have enough piecing instructions for a beginning quilter.Bottom line: If I had do-overs, would I buy the book again? Yes, most definitely because out of the book's 16 quilts there are 11 that I'm seriously considering making because the sizes of the quilts (although you can always add more blocks are eliminate some) are perfect for putting on end tables, draping off book cases, etc. There's even one that would be perfect hung in my hallway across from my newly remodeled guest bathroom. It doesn't get any better than that!

Theodore E. Hughes, Michigan Assistant Attorney General for Law (Ret.), is a lawyer skilled in wills, trusts, and estate planning law. He has served as adjunct professor of law at Thomas M. This is a super-helpful book, not only for anyone who is (or someday may be) an executor, but also for everyone who wants to name an executor to administer his estate someday. I recommend that you read this book long before you think you may actually need it, so that you can take the time to digest the information and do what you can to prepare ahead of time. The book is written in easy-to-understand terms, with lots of good practical advice. I left one star off because, as a tax professional, I thought some of the tax-related information could have been more thorough. To get a more complete picture of an executor's duties and responsibilities from a tax standpoint, you may want to request IRS publication 559, "Survivors, Executors, and Administrators" (free from the IRS website). This book and Pub. 559 together will give you plenty of good, useful information.

This is a good basic book for estate executors as long as you remember that every state has slightly different rules/requirements. Possibly the most important feature of the book is making you aware that this is not a simple process taken on by the faint of heart. Additional help (an attorney) is needed if even modest assets or multiple heirs are involved. The executor can get into personal trouble, even with good intentions, if all the t's are not crossed correctly. Buy and digest the book and then keep reading/learning.

Excellent book. I read it through and it was nicely written so that a person could easily understand what was being said and how to really go about handling things.I actually bought it to place in my file cabinet along with my Trust documents, Living Will and other documents. I figured that my son would appreciate a little bit of guidance when the time comes for him to deal with this.

This book might be good years before a death when you're trying to make plans but after a death needing questions answered about what needs to be taken care of, how soon and the variations state-to-state it was not helpful.

This is a very useful book to inform an individual what is expected if you are being considered, or are chosen as an executor for someone's estate. There were aspects of the process of which I was unaware, so I can be more prepared if and when I have to deal with those issues.

This book covers all aspects of estate settlement in a complete and thorough manner. I found it brought out many areas that I had not even considered, even covering many aspects of estate planning as they would ultimately affect the heirs. Recommended reading.
